Who we are

Council for Economic Empowerment for Women of Africa, Uganda Chapter (CEEWA-U) is a non-governmental, non- partisan professional women organization.

It was formed in 1995 to be a torch bearer for African Women Economic Empowerment and was legally registered in 1997/98.

CEEWA- U boasts of 27 years of promoting women economic empowerment in Uganda. It plays a key role in the National Development Plan of Uganda (NDP), and the global sustainable development agenda cutting across sustainable development goals 1 –Zero Hunger, 5-Gender Equality, 8-Decent work and economic growth, 13 –Climate Action, and 17-Partnerships for goals.

In its interventions CEEWA-U focuses on gradually changing mind sets by addressing gender inequality gaps through advocating for policies and practices that increase the level of women’s access to, control over, and effective use of economic resources, and equipping women and youth with skills that enable them to overcome stereo typed occupational/employment barriers.

The Board
The Board is appointed by the General Assembly which itself is composed of professional women members.

Secretariat

The Executive Director reports to the Board and collaborates with Consultants, Staff and Volunteers.

In October 2022 CEEWA-U transitioned from the 10th to the 11th Board. The Board reflected on the need to restructure the secretariat and they resolved to kick start this process.
